There was a time when even the simplest daily routine felt impossible. While going through cancer treatment, my body reacted differently to almost everything around me. The scent of regular shampoo felt overwhelming. Cleansers that I had used for years suddenly stung my skin. Products that were meant to make me feel clean and refreshed often left my skin feeling dry, irritated, and exhausted.
What had once been completely ordinary—washing, bathing, caring for the body—became something to endure. In that deeply vulnerable season, I searched everywhere for products that felt truly gentle. I didn't want products filled with grand promises; I simply wanted ones that did less. Less irritation. Less fragrance. Less noise.
But the more I searched, the more I felt that many products were trying to do too much. Long ingredient lists, strong fragrances, unnecessary additives—none of it felt right for what my body needed during that season.
That experience stayed with me.
Over time, a simple question kept coming back: What if skincare could focus on only what truly matters? What if we removed the unnecessary and kept only what helps care for the skin gently and honestly?
That question eventually became ON:GI.
It wasn't created from a business plan. It came from a very personal need—one that taught me how powerful simplicity can be when your body is asking for kindness.
The Meaning of ON:GI
In Korean, ON:GI (온기, 溫氣) translates directly to warmth. But it means so much more than just physical warmth. It represents the gentle human warmth that flows from sincerity, compassion, and true connection. The name carries another beautiful layer of meaning as well: ON speaks to turning energy on—igniting positivity, vitality, and light—while GI (기, 氣) signifies energy or life force. Together, ON:GI expresses the profound feeling of turning on the energy that warms and connects us.
Even the small colon in our name holds a purpose. It symbolizes a bridge of connection: between East and West, skin and spirit, tradition and innovation, and Korea and the world.
Back to Basics: Our Ingredients and Process
One of the biggest lessons I learned during my health journey was that our bodies often need less, not more. When my skin became highly sensitive, I started paying closer attention to ingredient labels. I realized how many everyday products contained things that didn't seem necessary—strong fragrances, harsh detergents, and long lists of ingredients I couldn't even pronounce. That experience shaped the philosophy behind ON:GI. We believe skincare should be simple and honest. That's why we leave out what doesn't belong. Our formulas contain no sulfates, no parabens, no synthetic fragrances, and no unnecessary additives. Every ingredient is carefully selected with gentleness in mind, using only EWG-rated ingredients within the 0–1 range whenever possible.

We also believe that how something is made matters just as much as what goes into it. Many conventional cleansing bars are produced quickly using large industrial equipment and high heat. While efficient, those methods weren't aligned with what we wanted for ON:GI. We chose a slower approach. We do not use large industrial machines, because the intense heat and pressure they generate break down active ingredients and destroy the delicate pH balance. Instead, we use a coconut-derived surfactant called Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, which is significantly gentler than traditional soap, and blend it with hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and panthenol to actively support the skin barrier.
Every ON:GI beauty bar is still made by hand in Korea. Each bar is shaped carefully, deliberately, and intentionally. Our process is slow, quiet, and meaningful.
First, pure, minimal ingredients are carefully measured and blended. Nothing extra is added, and nothing is hidden. Simplicity is the entire point.
Next, each bar is shaped individually by hand. Our soap is never poured as a liquid into a machine mold to harden. That gentle rounding and smooth finish come directly from a person who genuinely cares about what they are crafting.

Then, the bars are laid out in quiet rows and left to cure slowly. This resting time allows the formula to settle and firm naturally. We refuse to rush this step, because good things need time to become what they are meant to be.
Finally, every bar is held, inspected, and wrapped by hand using zero-waste packaging and traditional Korean hanji paper—a beautiful material rooted in tradition, simplicity, and respect. Finally, our "Back to Basic" stamp is gently pressed into each bar as a quiet reminder of what this journey was always about.
